The compact crossover SUV market has been heating up for some time now as more buyers are wanting the comfort, fuel-efficiency, and driving characteristics of a four-door sedan combined with the versatility and convenience of a sport utility vehicle. The all-new, 2016 Mazda CX-3 is designed to satisfy the public’s increasing demand for a small SUV that doesn’t sacrifice quality, performance, or practicality when compared to larger SUVs. The new CX-3 is slated to go on sale in Japan sometime this year, with a firm U.S. release date still forthcoming.
Redefining the crossover segment
Sharing many of the same design cues as the popular Mazda2 Hatchback, the 2016 CX-3 is smaller than its CX-5 crossover stable mate. At 168.3 in. long, 69.5 in. wide, and 61 in. tall, the CX-3 is highly maneuverable, yet surprisingly roomy. It is the fifth vehicle to share Mazda’s next-generation SKYACTIV Technology, which combines a number of advanced engineering features, such as low-friction, higher-compression engines, to achieve better fuel economy while maintaining spirited performance.
